Wellness
At the Mountainside Family Medicine Residency Program, resident wellness is a top priority. We recognize that residency is both rewarding and demanding, and we are committed to fostering a supportive, respectful, and positive environment for all members of our Mountainside Family Medicine community.
Our Wellness Curriculum includes one hour of dedicated didactics each month focused on wellness topics and activities. These sessions are designed to promote self-care, resilience, and camaraderie. Examples include:
- Time Management & Coping Skills Workshops
- Taichi and Mindfulness Practices
- Arts & Crafts for Stress Relief
- Field Day and Outdoor Activities
- Team-building through Board Games
- Resident Retreats such as cooking classes, laser tag, and rock climbing
Residents, faculty, and staff are encouraged to participate in our Wellness Committee, which plans events and initiatives throughout the year to promote personal well-being and strengthen team bonds. Highlights include:
- Monthly Birthday Celebrations
- Friendly Steps Competitions
- A Staff Shout-Out Board to recognize contributions
- Annual Thanksgiving Potluck and Holiday Party
- Music & Mindfulness Events
- Lunchtime Walks and After-Work Mixers
In addition, our residents take part in monthly Balint groups led by our faculty behaviorist. These sessions provide a safe and reflective space to explore the emotional and interpersonal aspects of patient care. Participation in Balint groups has been shown to enhance communication, improve clinical effectiveness, and reduce burnout and compassion fatigue.
We believe that a healthy, supported resident is a thriving physician—and we're proud to offer a wellness program that reflects that philosophy.
