Family Medicine
Wellness
Here at Mountainside Family Medicine Residency Program, we prioritize well-being. We understand that residency can be a busy and stressful time and, therefore, work hard to foster resident wellness and encourage a supportive and positive work environment for all the members of our MFP family!
Residents receive one hour of didactics per month devoted to a wellness topic/activity. Some samplings from our Wellness Curriculum include:
- Time Management
- Coping Skills
- Taichi
- Arts & Crafts
- Field Day
- Teambuilding with Board Games
- Resident Retreat (ex: cooking class, laser tag, rock climbing)
Residents, faculty, and staff are welcome to join our Wellness Committee, which is in charge of planning events and initiatives that promote personal wellness and team bonding throughout the year. Some examples include:
- Monthly Birthday Celebrations
- Steps Competition
- Staff Shout-Out Board
- Thanksgiving Potluck
- Holiday Party
- Music & Mindfulness Event
- Lunchtime Walks
- After Work Mixers
Our residents participate in monthly Balint groups led by our faculty behaviorist. Balint groups offer a dedicated time and safe space for residents to discuss and process the interpersonal aspects of being a physician. Participation in Balint groups has been found to improve clinician/patient communication and clinical effectiveness, as well as mitigate compassion fatigue and burnout.
