Internal Medicine

Randolph Sanchez, M.D.

"Rheumatology is an aspect of medicine that has entered its Renaissance. The core principles and diseases of Rheumatology are becoming ever more present in Internal Medicine and multiple subspecialties. As such, the modern physician should be exposed to this knowledge throughout their formation. I am honored to be that guide to the future physicians of our community."

Oleg Shulik, M.D.

"I have always been interested in guiding and teaching the internal medicine residents. The internal medicine program is very strong and we have excellent residents joining our program on a competitive matching system. Once they come into the hospital, the residents provide excellent care under the guidance of core academic teachers and active medical staff. The Gastroenterology Division is an active core member of the hospital with 12 fulltime gastroenterologists who provide excellent care to the local community.

Aiza Akbar, M.D.

Dr. Akbar graduated from King Edward Medical College before completing residency here at Mountainside. She went on to pursue a career in Acute and Post Acute Care Medicine but regularly provides teaching services and clinical coverage with the resident teams. She values the supportive environment and aims to pass on this care and compassion to residents. In her spare time, she can be found traveling with her family.

Arturo Pascual, M.D., FACP

"I remember how much I looked up to my mentors when I was training, so truly appreciate having the chance now to be involved in molding the next generation of physicians. The residents thirst for knowledge and eagerness to serve their patients reminds me of the reason why we all chose this field and look forward to coming to work every day."

Hassan Malik, M.D.

A graduate of C.M.H. Lahore Medical College, Dr. Malik also completed his residency at Mountainside Medical Center and spent time thereafter working within different hospital systems. Dr. Malik returned to follow his passion for teaching, joining the faculty with a special focus on the integration of Simulation Medicine into medical education. When not working, he can be found live streaming cricket and football or enjoying a movie with his wife and kids

Hetal Patel, M.D.

"I have enjoyed teaching others since I was a resident. Helping someone understand a disease process or treatment regimen is a very satisfying and rewarding feeling. There is an art to medicine that you cannot learn in textbooks, it is something that you learn through experience and great mentors. I look forward to passing on this knowledge to the next generation of physicians. I am very excited and honored to be a part of the teaching Faculty of Mountainside Medical Center."

Jonathan Hertz, M.D.

"I can't imagine working in this field of medicine without teaching. My two greatest passions are clinical medicine and teaching trainees. I look forward to working with the residents and staff at Mountainside to provide excellent psychiatric care to our patients. In addition, I hope to create and sustain a culture of resilience and wellbeing serving as Chief Wellness Officer for the institution."

David Blady, M.D.

"I have been teaching residents for more than 25 years. I thoroughly enjoy participating in the intellectual growth of trainees as they evolve from internship through residency into practice. HUMC Mountainside offers a challenging environment where residents are exposed to a wide variety of neurological conditions to prepare them for the realities of their future practices."

Alvin Bell, M.D.

"I enjoy teaching. I always look for the opportunity to teach evidence-based medicine to the house staff and other members of the HUMC Mountainside clinical community. Evidence based training is crucial to the future of these young physicians. It is also important that the house staff understand the social and financial impact that chronic diseases and hospitalizations have on patients and their families."

John Conti, M.D., FACP

"I am very proud to have worked with the Mountainside Medical Center house staff for almost twenty years along with being the division chief of oncology for the last eight years. During that time, I have been very impressed with the enthusiasm and excitement that the residents and interns demonstrate regarding patients with cancer and during the oncology lecture series.
