Clinical Focus Tracks
Our Clinical Focus Tracks are a signature feature of our residency program, offering residents a unique opportunity to personalize their training through longitudinal pathways designed around their individual career goals.
In addition to meeting all requirements for categorical residents to become eligible for certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine, we offer several tracks that provide sustained mentorship, specialized clinical experiences, leadership opportunities, and scholarly engagement through a collaborative network of expert faculty from across our health system. At Mountainside, we offer:

Global Health Track
Develop the knowledge and skills to care for diverse patient populations through experiences that emphasize global health, health equity, and the social determinants of health. The track includes mission trips overseas and a structured 24-month curriculum.

Women’s Health Track
Gain advanced experience in the comprehensive care of women across the lifespan through focused ambulatory and inpatient experiences. This track emphasizes preventive care, reproductive health, menopause management, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Healthcare Leadership and Administration Track
Prepare to become a physician leader by developing expertise in healthcare operations, quality improvement, systems-based practice, and organizational leadership. Residents work alongside the CMO as a resident-assistant CMO through a longitudinal track.

Hospitalist Track
Designed for residents pursuing careers in hospital medicine, this track provides enhanced exposure to inpatient care, clinical decision-making, patient safety, quality improvement, and multidisciplinary team leadership to prepare graduates for the evolving role of the modern hospitalist.

Primary Care Track
Designed for residents pursuing careers in outpatient medicine, this track uses expanded continuity clinic experiences, preventive medicine, chronic disease management, and population health initiatives to prepare residents for private practice and primary care through a 24-month curriculum.

Lifestyle Medicine Track
Explore the evidence-based use of nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress management, and behavioral change as therapeutic interventions. This track equips residents to address the root causes of chronic disease and promote long-term wellness. Upon graduation, residents are also eligible to sit for the Lifestyle Certificate Examination.

Geriatrics Track
Develop expertise in caring for the growing older adult population through specialized training in healthy aging, cognitive disorders, polypharmacy, palliative care, and interdisciplinary team-based care. Residents learn to optimize function, independence, and quality of life for older adults in multiple settings, including inpatient, outpatient, and skilled nursing facilities.

Sports Medicine Track
Gain additional experience in the evaluation and management of musculoskeletal injuries, exercise medicine, concussion care, and sports-related conditions. Residents work alongside sports medicine specialists to care for active individuals of all ages while promoting safe physical activity and injury prevention, as well as supervising local sports teams.
