Wellness at Mountainside

Train Hard. Feel Supported. Thrive.

Residency is demanding, but it shouldn’t come at the expense of your well-being. At Mountainside, we believe that physicians provide the best care when they feel supported, connected, and fulfilled. Wellness isn’t an afterthought—it’s built into the culture of our program.

A Culture That Puts People First

From day one, you’ll join a collaborative, approachable team where residents, faculty, and program leadership know each other by name. We foster an environment where questions are welcomed, feedback is timely and constructive, and every resident feels comfortable asking for help when they need it. Our goal is simple: create a training environment where you can grow as both a physician and a person.

Protecting Your Time

We recognize that meaningful time outside the hospital is essential for long-term success and preventing burnout. That’s why we’ve intentionally designed our program to prioritize balance whenever possible.

Our commitment includes:

  • No 24-hour shifts. All resident shifts are scheduled for a maximum of 12 hours.
  • Protected time to recharge, connect with family and friends, and pursue interests outside of medicine.
  • Complimentary access to our on-site fitness center for residents and teaching faculty.
  • An active Resident Wellness Committee dedicated to organizing events and advocating for resident well-being.

More Than Colleagues—A Community

Some of the strongest friendships you’ll make during residency happen outside the hospital. Throughout the year, residents and faculty come together for activities that build camaraderie, celebrate milestones, and simply have fun.
