“I knew I belonged at Mountainside's FM program as early as my third year of medical school. Here, it is our culture to form tight-knit bonds with our co-residents that extends beyond the hospital/office. Our faculty and staff prioritizes our academic growth along with our personal well-being. In addition the practice is located in a culturally rich area which allows for a diverse patient population with a wide range of disease presentation. I feel very fortunate to call myself a Mountainside FM resident and look toward to an unforgettable 3 years.”

"I chose Mountainside Family Medicine Residency due to the incredibly committed, patient-centered, and team-oriented faculty, residents and staff. The minute you walk in the door you’re greeted with a smile and everyone is willing to work hard to offer the patients the best care possible. Also, I was born and raised in Manahawkin, NJ. Therefore, I am hoping to remain a pillar in the community. In my next three years here, I hope to further develop my skills particularly in professionalism, medical knowledge and procedures, as well as foster an everlasting bond between the local community and my colleagues."

"Many different factors lead me to choose the Hackensack Meridian Health Family Medicine Residency program. One of the main reasons was because of the people. I was very impressed with the faculty as well as the residents who are in the program. Their commitment and passion for the residency is obvious. It is also a very welcoming environment. This program is well established, it has been producing well rounded physicians for over 40 years. Last but not least it is a dream come true to be able to serve my home state of New Jersey for the next three years and beyond!

Melissa Gonzalez, M.D.

"New Jersey is my home and it has given me so much. I was determined to stay home so I could be a part of the communities I loved growing up in.  Mountainside Family Medicine is a place I knew I could grow and learn. The program was also able to look at me as an individual instead of a file number. Focusing on my strengths instead of my weaknesses. You truly get a sense of family the moment you walk thru the doors. I saw it as a potential candidate and I saw it in their devoted patient population. They were able bring together people from all walks of life with a common goal: to make everyone better, whether as a patient or staff member.  A diverse program united serving a diverse community."

"During my interview for the Family Medicine residency at Mountainside Hospital, I quickly learned that the residents and staff of the program were more than just colleagues, they were a family who supported each other and enjoyed always staying positive.  The morning report was light hearted, congenial, and residency staff all treated each other with a great deal of respect.  These are the qualities that attracted me to want to be a resident at this fine institution.  Upon starting my residency, our intern class quickly grew into a harmonious huddle of happy healthcare providers, and together we are all extremely proud to be a part of the Mountainside family."
